Looks like Louisiana will finally finish Palmetto Island State Park in December 2009. The sad thing is that the state has no money to operate it so opening the park is expected to be in fiscal 2010-2011.
The good news is that along with the cabins will be some campsites. They are building only 6 cabins on the 1200-acre park with no mention of how many campsites.
The park was started in 2002, but land acquisition and planning go way back past that. There have been 2 high water hurricane events during construction with Rita in 2005 and Ike in 2008. tvzb76qpfu
If they ever get it open there is plenty of wildlife to see. It’s common to see dear while driving through the area. If you have access to a boat it’s on Vermilion Bayou with quick access to Vermilion Bay.
Some nice images of the final phase of construction are available on the LA State Park website.

are pets allowed and how much
Pets have to be on a leash or in a cage. They are not allowed in any park buildings, including cabins and lodges (including porches). Those are rules for all Louisiana State Parks. Fees depend on what you are doing.
Was there today and it was nice out. Caught 2 nice perch.
