Event Planning Guide to Camping Parties

Looking for a party idea that is out of the ordinary and will be forever remembered by your friends? Why not organize a camping party.

Here’s some planning help to get you started.

Theming your Party

You might want to think about a theme for your camping party. Although it may seem “childish” to theme your party, it can really help with the planning, and the guests usually end up loving it. Depending on your guests, you could do a military boot camp, a Robin Hood Outlaw camp, Pioneer camp and on and on. The sky is the limit, literally!

Setting the Date

Camping is not only a summer sport; it can be a lot of fun in the winter, too. The only thing that could ruin it is a lot of rain, so try to plan around your location’s rainy season. Check with your campground and reserve enough space for your group for the chosen date.

Remember that camping parties usually last at least 2 days, so plan accordingly, taking into account holidays and weekends.

Sending out the Invitations

Once you’ve figured out your theme and the date, you can get around to deciding who to invite and what invitations to use. There are tons of sites on the web that sell cool invitations; you’re sure to find some great ones. Make sure you tell your guests what is expected of them: date, time, place, what to bring.

Make a To-Do List and Stick With It

The biggest help you will get for planning your party will be your to-do list. Take a few moments to run through how you want your party to run. Write down every little thing you will need to make each moment happen, and what you need to do before hand to ensure that it will happen. Remember to think of eventualities like rain and have a plan B for those moments.

What to Bring?

First you will need to decide if you are tent camping or lodge camping, or offering both. There are always people who refuse to sleep in a tent, it is a great idea to offer cabin or lodge space if it is available in your campground.

If tenting, you will have to coordinate with your guests who is bringing what size tents. Some of your guests may not own camping gear, so it’s great to ask other guests what they can lend out. Sleeping bags and mats, air mattresses etc may need to be loaned.

Depending on the size of your group you are going to have a little or a lot of cooking to do. You may want to bring a tripod for hanging pots over the fire, or a gas-fired cooking system. Keep meal planning simple, plan it in great detail and make sure you bring everything you need (Salt? Pepper? If you forget it, you do without it!!)

Coolers and ice are necessary; you don’t want anyone getting food poisoning. Don’t forget dishes, silverware, dish soap and rags and bins to wash up in.

I regularly get my camping paraphernalia here, they have one of the biggest ranges I’ve seen.

Although planning a camping party takes a great deal of forethought and a lot more work than a normal party, it is sure to be an event that you will remember for years to come. Careful detailed planning will help turn your camping party into a fantastic memory.
