So what are we talking about here when we say “sleeping bag camping”? We for sure are not talking about spending the night in a fancy motorhome sleeping on the same sheets we have back at the house. We are not even talking about going to what we call in Louisiana a “camp” where we sleep in relative comfort in a bed or a bunk.
The kind of camping we are talking about is done on the trail, or in a rustic shelter, or for those less fortunate in the troubled economic times it could be even on the street. We’re talking about the kind of camping where a sleeping bag like this Beeline Sleeping Bag is the key ingredient for a comfortable night’s sleep.
Whenever I look at my old sleeping bag memories as old as 40 years ago flood in. I have camped with that bag in national forests, in the back of my pickup along the highway, on the beach in North Carolina, and in countless other places.
My only regret is that I didn’t take my kids camping enough when they were little. There was always some excuse when my wife offered up the suggestion, and now every so often she reminds me to keep the guilt alive. Don’t let this happen to you. Go camping every chance you get whether you have children or not.
Take your time when you pick out your sleeping bag as a good nights sleep is the most important part of your outdoor experience. All your other fancy gear means nothing if you’re sleep deprived and can’t enjoy it. There is nothing as crappy as a bad night’s sleep in the great outdoors.
There are so many kinds of quality bags to choose from and so much depends on the type of camping you are going to do. Is it going to be cold? Is it going to be hot? Are you going to have to hike to 10 miles with your sleeping bag and other gear on your back? Do your research on the Internet. There’s worlds of information out there, and it’s worth spending a little time on a product that will probably last you for many years.
If you are getting a new sleeping bag and no longer need the old one then I encourage you to try to find someone that has no sleeping bag. Look around and you’ll find a business or charity that can recycle your sleeping bag over to some one who may be homeless. If that doesn’t work for you give your old bag to a friend who has none, and encourage them to go sleeping bag camping and build memories that last a lifetime.
